Futures before the bell
At about 7:10 a.m. ET, S&P 500 futures traded at 7,800.00, Nasdaq-100 futures at about 30,098 and Dow futures at about 52,480, according to Yahoo Finance data [2]. Compared with each contract's previous daily reading, that is about 0.1% higher for the S&P 500, about 0.2% lower for the Nasdaq-100 and about 0.1% higher for the Dow [2]. The source does not state the contract month. Futures trade outside regular hours and are priced differently from the cash indexes, so they only hint at where stocks may open.
Thursday's regular session ended higher. The S&P 500 closed at 7,744.06, up 0.33%; the Dow at 52,177.69, up 1.08%; and the Nasdaq Composite at 26,713.03, up 0.08% [1]. That left the S&P 500 below its Monday and Tuesday closes of about 7,805 [1]. September producer prices, which track what businesses receive for goods and services, rose 1.3% from August against a 0.5% consensus forecast, a midday market summary reported Thursday [9]. The 10-year Treasury yield fell to about 5.09% on Thursday from 5.19% the day before [4].
Overnight in Asia and early Europe
Asian markets recovered after heavy selling on Thursday. A wire report tied that selling to questions about the debt of a large AI cloud-computing provider, which fed worries about how the artificial intelligence boom is being financed [8]. Japan's Nikkei 225 closed up 1.39% at 65,324.29 and South Korea's Kospi rose 2.05% to 5,668.05 [3]. Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained about 0.5% to 24,186.83 and the Shanghai Composite about 0.2% to 3,716.28 [3]. The wire report cited a Kospi gain of about 2.8% earlier in the session, so intraday and closing figures differ [8].
In Europe at about 7:03 a.m. ET, Yahoo Finance showed Germany's DAX up about 1.0% at 25,642.99, the Euro Stoxx 50 up about 0.8% at 6,215.74 and London's FTSE 100 up about 0.1% at 10,848.99, all measured against Thursday's closes and still in morning trading [3].
The 10-year Treasury yield stood at 5.089% in its last Yahoo Finance reading Thursday afternoon [4]. At about 7:10 a.m. ET, Brent crude futures traded near $106.20 a barrel and U.S. West Texas Intermediate futures near $95.96, Yahoo Finance data show [5]. The roughly $10 gap between the two benchmarks may reflect different contract months, which the source does not state.
Data, Fed speakers and earnings
The Federal Reserve's calendar lists one scheduled item for Friday: the report on industrial production and capacity utilization at 9:15 a.m. ET [6]. It shows no scheduled appearance by a Fed official for the day [6].
A third-party earnings calendar listed 13 companies reporting before the open, including The Travelers Companies and a large oilfield-services company, and already showed results from Truist, Regions, Citizens Financial Group and M&T Bank Corporation at about 7:20 a.m. ET [7]. The aggregator's figures were not checked against the companies' own releases, so they are not repeated here.
What remains uncertain
Futures, Asian and European index levels, the Treasury yield and oil prices come from Yahoo Finance data and may be delayed; the futures contract months are not stated, and the comparisons use Yahoo's previous daily readings, not official settlements. The Kospi's early-session gain (about 2.8%) differs from its close (2.05%). European markets were still trading. The producer-price figures come from a market summary rather than the government release. The list of companies reporting comes from a third-party aggregator. Readings are premarket snapshots and will change at the 9:30 a.m. ET open.
