World introduces identity-verification suite for financial firms

World announced identity tools for financial firms on October 18, naming design partners while its agent toolkit remains in beta.

Identity verification

World introduced a suite of identity-verification tools for banking and financial services on October 18 at Money20/20 in Las Vegas. The project says the offering brings together the World ID app, World ID for Agents and World ID for Zoom.

World says it is working with design partners on the offering. The announcement does not establish that the full suite is operating across commercial banks.

World describes three types of digital proof: that someone is a unique human, that the person is present during an interaction, and that a government credential confirms a particular attribute such as age or nationality. These descriptions and privacy assurances are World's claims.

World's agent toolkit, AgentKit, remains in beta. It is designed to let people delegate certain proofs to software agents acting on their behalf. The Zoom integration uses a linked World ID and a live selfie to confirm a participant and display a Human Badge. The announcement provides no independently verified measure of how much fraud the banking suite prevents.
