UniCredit S.p.A. is an Italian banking group, based in Milan, that says it serves more than 20 million clients across Italy, Germany and Central and Eastern Europe.
UniCredit has built a large stake in Germany's Commerzbank since September 2024 and received ECB approval in October 2026 to take that stake above 30%.

The European Central Bank has authorized Italy's UniCredit to raise its stake in Germany's Commerzbank above 30% with no upper limit, UniCredit said on October 15, 2026. UniCredit expects to hold about half of Commerzbank's voting rights and to be able to take control once the remaining steps of its offer are completed around year-end.
