Nomura Holdings is the Japanese financial-services group that acquired most of Lehman Brothers’ Asia-Pacific operations and its European and Middle Eastern equities and investment-banking businesses in 2008.
Nomura’s filing distinguishes the acquired employees and selected assets and liabilities from financial assets and financial liabilities that were generally excluded. It did not buy the entire failed Lehman group.
Lehman’s September 2008 bankruptcy followed mounting property losses, shrinking access to cash and a failed rescue weekend. Barclays and Nomura took over businesses, while the Repo 105 investigation and separate creditor proceedings continued long after the collapse.
