C.J. Johnson is president and chief executive of Mechanics Bank and Mechanics Bancorp.
He became permanent bank CEO in January 2025 after serving on an interim basis since February 2024 and previously worked as chief financial officer and a Ford Financial Fund partner.
Mechanics Bank began in Richmond in 1905. A change in control in 2015 set off a series of acquisitions, culminating in the HomeStreet merger that took the California bank into Washington, Oregon and Hawaii under a publicly traded parent.
